Our on-site nursery will grow orchard trees, shrubs, and perennials for the ongoing expansion and maintenance of Teal Farm. By raising our own stock, we will experiment with propagation — grafting, division, and seed germination — and are assured of the quality and hardiness of our plants to our northern climate. Additionally, running a nursery on-site reduces costs for the farm. We believe that home horticulture is the cradle for developing locally adapted varieties that will do best in a perpetual food system, varieties resilient to changes in global and local climate. We support this tradition of home horticulture and believe that it will be imperative to the future of farming.
